You can control which files are backed up by simply selecting or deselecting the files in the Backup Set tab. However, if you want finer control, you may want to create rules.
Three types of rules specify the files to back up:
Locked Rules (You cannot change these rules; they are created by the Connected Backup service administrator. Locked Rules take precedence over all other rules.)
User-Created Rules (You can modify these rules. User-created rules take precedence over unlocked rules.)
Unlocked Rules (Although you cannot change these rules, they are lowest in the precedence. You can create a user-created rule and overrule an unlocked rule.)
You can create a rule from scratch or copy an unlocked rule, paste it to the user-created rules, and modify it.
In the following examples, unlocked rules cause all media files to be excluded from backups (this is shown in Figure 1 Wave File Deselected where the WAVE Audio file, 1 Voice Mail, is deselected). Throughout this example, the user creates a rule to make an exception and cause the system to back up this specific .wav file.

Click the Backup Set tab if you don't see the Backup Set window. If you see a "Scanning" icon in the lower left corner and question marks in the boxes to the left of your folders, wait a few seconds to allow the system to finish scanning your folders.
Select Tools>Advanced Rules.... The Advanced Rules window appears.

On the Advanced Rules window, select User-Created Rules.

Click New. The New Rule window displays.

The Category options for a new rule are User-Created Files and Exclusions. To include a file (or a kind of file) set the Category to User-Created Files. To exclude certain files (or kinds of files), set the Category to Exclusions.
In this example, to include the .wav file, set the Category to User-Created Files.

Type in a Rule Name. The name allows you to keep track of your rules. (This is for your convenience. This name is not used by the system.)

Specify the files you want to include in the backup. To include a specific file, type in the File Name.
If you wanted to include more than one file, you could:

Click Save. The rule appears in the User-Created Rules window.

You may want to click the up and down arrows
to control the order of the rules. Rules are applied in the order displayed: top to bottom. The top rule takes precedence over all the rules below it.
Click OK. The file is selected. This is shown in Figure 9 where the WAVE Audio file, 1 Voice Mail, is selected. The Agent will begin scanning.

When the Agent is finished scanning, click Back Up Now to back up your files using your new rule. In this example, although all other media files are excluded, the one file listed will be backed up.
An alternate, faster, method of creating a rule is to copy an unlocked rule, paste that rule into the user-created rules, and modify the rule.
Click the Backup Set tab if you don't see the Backup Set screen. If you see a "Scanning" icon in the lower left corner and question marks in the boxes to the left of your folders, wait a few seconds to allow the system to finish scanning your folders.
Select Tools>Advanced Rules.... The Advanced Rules screen appears.
