Using Mulberry 3 for E-Mail
S4312 March 2007
Mulberry is an e-mail program for both Macintosh and Windows computers. It looks essentially the same on both platforms. It can be used in conjunction with the e-mail service provided by Information and Technology Services (ITS) as part of the standard computing services. Like Pineanother ITS-supported e-mail programMulberry is an IMAP (Interactive Mail Access Protocol) client. IMAP allows software running on your computer to access a server computer where your mailbox is stored. Because your e-mail is on an IMAP server, you can access the same mailbox and folders from different locations. NOTE: The current version of Mulberry is 3.1.5. The screen shots in this document were made using the previous version of Mulberry, so you may notice some slight differences between the screen shots and what you see on your computer. Table of ContentsObtaining, Installing, and Configuring MulberrySee the Mulberry section of Configuring Your E-Mail Program to Connect to the ITS E-Mail Service (S4321) for details. Mulberry can be downloaded from the ITS Mulberry Support page.ATTENTION CAEN USERS! See Appendix A: Configuring Mulberry to Work With CAEN and Other Campus E-Mail Servers at the end of this document for instructions on making Mulberry work with CAEN servers. Adding Your Name and Setting a SignatureBefore you begin to use Mulberry, you should add your name and (optionally) an e-mail signature to Mulberry's preferences.
ATTENTION DIAL-IN USERS! If you are using a dial-in connection, Mulberry may ask, "Do you want to start this session in disconnected mode?" Click Connected. (You must be connected to the Internet to change your preferences, because your preferences are stored on a server machine rather than on your own computer.) ATTENTION CAEN USERS! Be sure to leave the Kerberos realm set as UMICH.EDU. If you change the realm to ENGIN.UMICH.EDU, authentication will fail.
