U-M is going Google! If you use the ITS IMAP email service, you will switch to a U-M Google account sometime during 2012. See the google.umich.edu website for details, including go-live dates. This document will remain available until all IMAP email users have moved to Google Mail.
E-Mail Configuration: Outlook Express v6 for Windows

From the Tools menu, select Accounts.
In the Internet Accounts window, click the Mail tab.
In the list of Accounts, click the name of your ITS e-mail account so that it is highlighted, then click the Properties button. (If you are creating a new account, click the Add button and provide the same setting information listed below.)
In the Properties window, click the Servers tab, and make these settings:
In the Incoming mail (IMAP) box, type mail.umich.edu.
POP users: Type mail.umich.edu in the Incoming mail (POP3) box.
In the Outgoing mail (SMTP) box, type smtp.mail.umich.edu.
In the Account name box, type your uniqname.
Under Outgoing Mail Server, check the My server requires authentication checkbox.
Click the Settings button (under Outgoing Mail Server).
Make sure that under Logon Information, the Use same settings as my incoming mail server radio button is selected. Then click OK.
Click the Advanced tab, and make these settings:
Under Outgoing mail (SMTP), check the This server requires a secure connection (SSL) checkbox.
The Outgoing mail (SMTP) port number should be 465.
Under Incoming mail (IMAP), check the This server requires a secure connection (SSL) checkbox.
POP users: Under Incoming mail (POP3), put a checkmark in the This server requires a secure connection (SSL) checkbox.
Make certain that the Incoming mail (IMAP) port is set to 993.
POP users: Set the Incoming mail (POP3) port to 995.
Click the OK button.
In the Internet Accounts window, click the Close button.
