U-M Online Directory
Each member of the U-M community has an entry in the U-M Online Directory. You can also create mail groups in the directory. U-M IT staff can request additional directory access if it is needed for their work. For more about the directory, see the U-M Online Directory FAQ.
Active Directory
Centrally maintained Windows/Active Directory accounts are placed in the forest root domain, UMROOT. The UMROOT domain is provisioned with user objects derived from corresponding entries in the U-M Online Directory.
eDirectory
Novell eDirectory is a cross-platform Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP)-enabled, directory-based identity management system that centralizes the management of user identities, access privileges, and many other network resources. The main eDirectory on campus is the Michigan Tree.
MCommunity
The Enterprise Directory Project, later renamed the MCommunity Project, was launched via the ITCommons to create a visionary architecture and plan for identity management, roles, data sharing and reconciliation, and directory services that reach far beyond the current system and organization constraints. This is a joint project of ITS and MAIS.
