ITS General Computing

Email Filtering for Viruses

Incoming Mail

Email coming in to U-M email servers is checked against current virus definitions. If a virus is detected, the email is rejected from delivery.

Outgoing Mail

Outgoing email is also checked for viruses. This stops virus-infected computers at U-M from sending virus-generated mail.

Some departments and units on campus run their own servers for sending mail. Outgoing mail is not protected by the same process that ITS uses, though departments may run their own process.
