M-Community

MCommunity is an enterprise directory and identity management system that will allow the university to know who is and is not a member of the U-M community so that central offices—as well as departments, schools, colleges, and campuses—can grant and remove access to online resources as needed and appropriate.

Status

  • MCommunity Directory: Under development.
A new online directory that will replace the U-M Online Directory. An MCommunity LDAP Tree is also under development to provide LDAP access to MCommunity data.
  • MCommunity Sponsor System: In production
Allows departments and the ITCS Accounts Office to sponsor guest members of the University community and get uniqnames for them.
  • Primary Infrastructure: In place
MCommunity has data feed connections with M-Pathways, the Dearborn data warehouse, and the Office of University Development data warehouse. That allows for creation of MCommunity entries for Ann Arbor faculty, staff, and students; Dearborn faculty, staff, and students; Flint faculty and staff; retirees; and alumni. A data connection for Flint student data is under development.
  • OTID creation and communication: In production
MCommunity generates OTIDs and sends them to incoming Ann Arbor students and to incoming staff hired through eMploy. These people then use the OTIDs, along with other information, to obtain a uniqname and UMICH password via the web.
