Project Status
The MCommunity Sponsor System is on track for release in June. Integration testing has been completed, and the project team is busy now with system testing of the Sponsor System and the MCommunity infrastructure. See the timeline on the MCommunity website for a list of deliverables for June and beyond.

A Preview of the MCommunity Sponsor System
If you'd like a preview of what the MCommunity Sponsor System will be used for, please see this new document:
Whereas uniqname administrators now create uniqnames using WebUniq and uns, after June, sponsorship administrators will be able to use the Sponsor System to create online identities, including uniqnames. The MCommunity Team will work with each unit to transition from WebUniq and uns to MCommunity over the next year. The ITCS Accounts Office staff will continue to provide uniqnames as requested.
With the help of the MCommunity Governance Board, policies and procedures for sponsorship administrators and sponsoring authorities have been prepared:
MCommunity Sponsorship Administration Policies and Agreement (R1459)
MCommunity Sponsoring Authority Policies and Agreement (R1460)
The MCommunity Team will be working with campus IT leaders and others over the coming months to identify the people across campus who would like to fill the sponsoring authority role. The team will then work with the sponsoring authorities to determine an initial set of sponsorship administrators.
Your Systems and Sponsored Individuals
Looking ahead, please be aware that any systems and services you provide that require nothing further than a uniqname and a UMICH Kerberos password for access are open to sponsored individuals. Sponsored individuals include conference attendees, contractors, incoming faculty who have not yet completed the hiring process, and others.
As MCommunity makes it easier for units to sponsor people as members of the University community, there may well be more sponsored individuals in the future.
People with uniqnames and passwords include faculty, staff, students, alumni, and sponsored individuals. Please keep this in mind as you set up access to your systems and services.
Next year, you'll be able to use MCommunity role management to limit access to people by role.
