Subject: MCommunity Update: Infrastructure in place, Sponsor System delayed till July

Hello,

The primary infrastructure for MCommunity was put in place last week (the week of June 9). Implementation of MCommunity has begun!

We are running the MCommunity infrastructure in production and are processing data feeds from the MAIS HEPROD database, Dearborn data warehouse, and Office of University Development data warehouse. That allows us to create MCommunity entries for Ann Arbor faculty, staff, and students; Dearborn faculty, staff, and students; Flint faculty and staff; retirees; and alumni.

MCommunity is now managing OTID creation and communication (This work was previously done by MAIS). OTIDS are the One-Time Identifiers that new students and employees use to create their uniqnames. MCommunity generates the OTIDs and sends them to incoming Ann Arbor students and to incoming staff hired through eMploy.

We are preparing to replace the weekly batch data feeds to the U-M Online Directory from MAIS with feeds to the directory from MCommunity. These update feeds will be live or nightly, depending on the original data source. Before we make the switch, we are monitoring the MCommunity feeds to a shadow copy of the U-M Online Directory for two weeks to ensure the updates are being processed accurately.

The decision to do the two weeks of monitoring, in combination with some unanticipated events, has caused us to delay release of the MCommunity Sponsor System from June to July. The Sponsor System will allow sponsorship administrators and the ITCS Accounts Office staff to create MCommunity identities, including uniqnames, for sponsored individuals. We'll let you know when we have a definite release date set.

We are working now on MCommunity deliverables for the beginning of 2009. These include an LDAP interface to MCommunity and the most visible part of MCommunity -- a web interface to the MCommunity Directory that will replace the current web interface to the U-M Online Directory.

Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions about MCommunity.

Regards,
-- M-Community Project Leads
