Subject: MCommunity Update: Sponsor System Released to Departments
Hello U-M IT Staff,
The MCommunity Team is making steady progress: More and more departments are using the Sponsor System to create online identities and uniqnames for sponsored affiliates, and we have a preview of the MCommunity Directory to share with you. Significant work remains to be done, however, so we want to assure you, as we all prepare for the start of another academic year, that there will be no major directory changes this fall.
Departments across the university are making extensive use of the MCommunity Sponsor System this summer to create online identities and uniqnames for contractors, visiting scholars, wireless users, and others. Departments are sponsoring individuals, such as incoming faculty members, and groups of 1,500 or more guests, such as conference attendees. The project team will focus in the weeks ahead on strengthening and fine tuning the Sponsor System and the user support associated with it. The MCommunity Team has begun work on the MCommunity Directory, starting on the screens for searching and for displaying search results. Considerable work remains before we can plan for releasing the new directory, but in the meantime we thought you might like to see a preview:
This document includes some mockups showing how people and group entries in the new directory are likely to look, as well as details about which information people will be able to change in their own entries and more.
As you prepare for the start of Fall Term, you can rest assured there will be no major directory changes that will affect your plans and preparations. The U-M Online Directory will continue as is for now, including any LDAP directory access that you rely on.
