As of August 7, 2010, the sponsorship reasons for you to choose from when using the Sponsor System to sponsor people have changed.

Instead of being listed alphabetically, the reasons are grouped into three categories to help you choose the best one for your needs. The categories are based on the kind of uniqname needed and whether the sponsored person will have (or already has) a UMID.
Visiting Researchers/Scholars has been changed to Academic Affiliates. This change makes this reason more inclusive, providing an option that can be used for any affiliate with an academic connection to the university.
A new reason has been added: Other University Affiliates. A number of units sponsor people who need a regular uniqname and a UMID, but who did not fit any of the existing sponsorship reasons.
The VIP and Associate reasons have been collapsed into one option called Long-Term Guests. The VIP reason was almost never used, so the list is simplified by removing it. Use of the word "guest" is intended to better convey the fact that this category is for people whose connection to the university is more limited, that is, they have no need for a UMID or the services associated with it.
Other Short-Term Guests has been renamed Short-Term Guests. The name of this reason was shortened to make it parallel with the new Long-Term Guest reason.
Existing sponsorships with old reasons that are no longer used have had their reason changed to the new reason closest to the old one. Nothing else about these sponsorships was changed.
