Microsoft Registration Policy

Note: Students, faculty, and staff receive the same CDs, which are labeled "Student Version." The software is identical to that purchased from retail vendors except for Microsoft's registration policy under the Campus Agreement.

Registration

Your CD package will include an INSTALLATION ID (also known as a PRODUCT KEY or CD-KEY). This is usually found on the back of the CD sleeve.

When you first run Microsoft Office, it starts a Registration Wizard which uses your Installation ID to generate a new unique "key."

You must contact Microsoft and provide this new unique key in order to register your product. The wizard provides the contact information.

Microsoft will provide you a PRODUCT REGISTRATION number that you enter on the registration screen. This allows unlimited use of the product on the computer on which it is installed.

Note: You do not need to re-register if you are only using the CD to update or change installed components on the computer on which the product is installed.

WHAT IF I DON'T REGISTER? The registration screen will continue to appear each time you run the program until you have registered. If you have not registered after using it 50 times, the program will cease to function. You must then call Microsoft (toll free 1-888-652-2342) to register and reactivate the program.

If you have a legitimate need for more than two registrations, you may call Microsoft (toll free 1-888-652-2342) to reactivate the installation process. Legitimate needs include:
