ITS Facebook Privacy Policy

Notice and Scope

The University of Michigan's Information and Technology Services (ITS) recognizes the importance of privacy for students, faculty, and staff. We strive to be the leaders and best in the ways in which we manage your personal information.

This policy only applies to information collected by ITS on the ITS Facebook site, and describes:

What Information is Collected

ITS only collects personal information when you enter promotions or contests hosted by ITS on the official ITS Facebook page (http://www.facebook.com/its.umich.edu).

How Your Information is Used

ITS promotions and contests are open only to U-M students, faculty, and staff. Your name, uniqname, and e-mail address are used to verify your student status by checking them against U-M student databases.

Your information may also be used to send e-mails related to ITS updates, questionnaires or surveys, and U-M Computer Showcase announcements and promotions.

How Your Information may be Disclosed

ITS does not provide, sell or rent your personal information to third parties, and will only disclose your personal information with your prior approval and/or under the following limited circumstances:

ITS collects, uses, or discloses your personal information consistent with this policy. By entering your information on the ITS Facebook page your consent is considered to be implied for the purposes described above.

You may opt-out of receiving communications related to entering your information on the ITS Facebook site by contacting its.communications@umich.edu.

How to Remove Your Information

Contact ITS at the e-mail address listed in the Contact Information section at the bottom of this policy to remove your e-mail from any future ITS Facebook communications not initiated by you. This applies only to communications originating from the ITS Facebook community. You may continue to receive official e-mails sent by ITS to U-M students, faculty, and staff; you are not able to opt out of those messages deemed of importance to the entire U-M community.

Changes to this Privacy Policy

Please periodically check this privacy policy for changes. We will post the date this policy was last updated at the bottom of the page.
