The University of Michigan's Information and Technology Services (ITS) recognizes the importance of privacy for students, faculty, and staff. We strive to be the leaders and best in the ways in which we manage your personal information.
This policy only applies to information collected by ITS on the ITS Facebook site, and describes:
Remember, information on your Facebook page may be accessible if you post on the ITS Facebook Wall so it is important to manage your Facebook privacy settings.
ITS only collects personal information when you enter promotions or contests hosted by ITS on the official ITS Facebook page (http://www.facebook.com/its.umich.edu).
The information ITS collects on its Facebook page is:
ITS promotions and contests are open only to U-M students, faculty, and staff. Your name, uniqname, and e-mail address are used to verify your student status by checking them against U-M student databases.
Your information may also be used to send e-mails related to ITS updates, questionnaires or surveys, and U-M Computer Showcase announcements and promotions.
ITS does not provide, sell or rent your personal information to third parties, and will only disclose your personal information with your prior approval and/or under the following limited circumstances:
U-M Partners:
ITS may disclose or otherwise make available personal information about you to other U-M organizations. For example, ITS may share your information with the Computer Showcase, which in turn may use your information to send you e-mail about Showcase sales or product offerings.
U-M Service Providers:
ITS may disclose or otherwise make available personal information about you to ITS service providers who may use this information to help ITS improve its product and service offerings and websites. For example, ITS may share your information with a consultant so that users can be contacted to help improve the functionality of ITS' website.
Legal Requirements and Protection of Others:
ITS may disclose your information in other special circumstances where required by law.
ITS collects, uses, or discloses your personal information consistent with this policy. By entering your information on the ITS Facebook page your consent is considered to be implied for the purposes described above.
You may opt-out of receiving communications related to entering your information on the ITS Facebook site by contacting its.communications@umich.edu.
Contact ITS at the e-mail address listed in the Contact Information section at the bottom of this policy to remove your e-mail from any future ITS Facebook communications not initiated by you. This applies only to communications originating from the ITS Facebook community. You may continue to receive official e-mails sent by ITS to U-M students, faculty, and staff; you are not able to opt out of those messages deemed of importance to the entire U-M community.
Securing your information is an ITS priority. We use reasonable security measures to help protect the confidentiality of personal information. For more about U-M's security environment, visit the ITS Safe Computing website.
