School of Social Work (SSW) Computing Site

Information

The School of Social Work Computing Site is located in Room B700 (basement level) in the School of Social Work Building on Central Campus.

The Social Work Library houses the Comprehensive Information Resource Center (CIRC), which serves as a computing lab for the School of Social Work.

The Social Work site has an array of computing facilities available for use. The site contains 48 Windows workstations.

Limited Access: Access to these computers may be restricted to social work students at certain times.

Special Features

Electronic Classrooms: The SSW classroom (Rm. B696) is equipped with 31 Windows workstations containing CD/DVD drives and AV projection equipment. This room is available on a reservation basis for School of Social Work instructional staff and Social Work Library staff for the purpose of providing a hands-on instructional environment. The SSW Facilities/AV office is responsible for determining room availability. This classroom is available only during regular library hours of operation and is subject to standard library policies (such as no food allowed). To submit a request for use of this classroom, instructors should send a message to ssw.av@umich.edu.

Library-Related Stations: There are 4 additional computers that provide access to library-related resources; these computers may be used by students not affiliated with the School of Social Work.

Cyber Stations: 6 email-only express stations are located within the computing site which provide a quick and easy way to access your email.

Adaptive Technology ErgoPod: There is 1 ErgoPod workstation located in the computing site. This workstation is designed to accommodate sitting and standing users as well as all types of wheelchairs. This platform was modified to include 2 CPUs (Mac and Win), closed circuit TV system, scanner, and flat panel attached to a monitor arm. A KVM switch is used to switch between the Mac and Windows workstation. Software is acquired from a special loadset supported by Campus Computing Sites and includes JAWS, Magic, Kurzweil 3000, Kurzweil 1000 and Dragon Naturally Speaking for the Windows and Kurzweil 3000 for the Mac. Color Printing: Color printing is available in the SSW computing site to all current UM Students, Faculty & Staff. Color printing is not included in the standard computing services, and the cost per page will be $0.40 which will be billed to student or departmental accounts. Scanner Station: Several flatbed scanners available in the SSW Library computing site. Scanners are installed at Windows full-use workstations. These scanners are available for all Faculty, Students, and Staff to use during normal operating hours. Additional information on scanning in Campus Computing Sites is available.

Wireless Network: The SSW is included in the UM Wireless Network provided by ITCS. The UM Wireless Network is available to U-M students, faculty, and staff. More wireless information is available online at: http://www.itcom.itd.umich.edu/wireless/

64-SITES: If the Site is in need of maintenance, call 64-SITES (Option #1) to report the problem, and a staff member of the Sites Environment Support Team will be sent to troubleshoot the problem or restock the Site.
