All standard computing services-eligible people may purchase computing services beyond what is provided at no charge in the standard computing services. If you are not eligible for the services, yet are affiliated with the University of Michigan, some services may be purchased or funded for you by your department. Funding and payment options vary according to your University affiliation:
Charged-for computing services used by students are billed directly to their University Student Account. (This is the same account through which tuition and other fees are billed.) Charges appear on the statement as "Additional Computing Services."
Faculty and staff who use computing services from Information and Technology Services (ITS) beyond those in the standard computing services may be able to have the charges billed to a departmental shortcode. Check with your departmental administrator.
The ITS Accounts Office staff can answer questions concerning billing for ITS computing services.
Computing services for departmentally sponsored people such as temporary staff, contractors, visiting researchers/scholars, conference participants, and others need to be requested by the sponsoring department. Departments can request ITS computing services when they request sponsorships from the ITS Accounts Office. There is a fee associated with providing services to some sponsored people, such as conference attendees; fees are indicated on the MCommunity sponsorship request forms. (See Getting Uniqnames for Departmentally Sponsored People for for links to the individual and multiple MCommunity sponsorship request forms.)
Alumni can contact the ITS Accounts Office for information about subscribing to U-M Online. U-M Online allows you to continue e-mail with your @umich.edu address, keep files in Institutional File System (IFS) space, including personal web pages, and continue calling 4-HELP for computing asstance. The service also provides access to licensed software.
